Hi All: Just to update our wonderful customers....for the past year, my family has had some challenges in our personal life that have made it necessary to put the cupcake business on hold.

Check back here from time to time for updates on when we'll be baking up a storm again.

I've been so excited for Spring and Easter and St. Patricks day. So I've started with some flower cupcakes. These were fun to make. They're vanilla with vanilla buttercream. The frosting is a little pink and a little white....with pink sugar for sprinkles!! Enjoy!!

These are some cupcakes from the Farmer's Market in February. The pink and white mix was an order from one of our customers. Thank you for your return business! She placed the order ahead of time and picked up the cupcakes at the farmer's market. The top picture is Red Velvet with Cream Cheese frosting. These have become a favorite of our regular customers. I first came across Red Velvet cake when I lived in Memphis, TN about 12 years ago. I worked with a lady named Miss Eleanor (everyone is Miss something in the South, I love it!) Anyway, Miss Eleanor gave me a couple of different great recipes. The Red Velvet is one of them...and it's a hit! The middle picture is just a little sample of the mini's we sell.

These are so moist and decadent! The cream cheese frosting is the best on this heavenly cupcake. Red Velvet is a favorite in the South. It's a sweet cake with a hint of cocoa. This yummy cupcake with a glass of cold milk......what a lovely little indulgence.

Valentine's Day is such a fun day to give something yummy to your special someone. We did red polka dots for this holiday. These were chocolate with vanilla buttercream and vanilla with vanilla buttercream. The chocolate/vanilla buttercream combo is my favorite! This particular box was a special order. Yikes!!! Super cold at the Livermore Farmer's Market today! It was around 46 degrees this AM when I got there to set up. I think it only got up to about 55 degrees!!! What's a California girl to do!! Layer and more layers, that's what. I checked weather.com last night so I knew how to dress. Thankfully, it wasn't windy like last weeks market. Stuff was blowing off of my table last week. Wind Chill.....yuck, no fun. Anyway, it occured to me today as I was "freezing" in the 50 degree weather.....that just a few short years ago when I lived in Boston a 50 degree day in the middle of December would have been a heatwave! I'm not kidding. Even for me back then. That would have been t-shirt weather. Today I had on 2 layers of pants and 4 layers on top, plus gloves. It's all relative. You figure if you're in New England and it's 18 degrees outside.....if it suddenly jumps up to 55 degrees, that's a huge difference. It would be like if it went from 55 degrees for us up to say 92 degrees.

So we did good at the market today. The mini's are really popular there. People like scooping up pre-packaged assortments in that atmosphere. I have some repeat customers now who have given me good feedback. One lady today said she came by for more business cards because the cupcakes were a hit at her office. Repeat customers commonly buy the regular size cupcakes....because they've tried before and they like them.

Today I sold: Vanilla with Vanilla, Chocolate cupcakes with Vanilla buttercream, Red Velvet with Cream Cheese, Mini Snowballs (vanilla, vanilla with coconut flakes on top).

I'm a chocolate fan myself.....love it in practically every baked form available......heaven. But the public has a thing for Vanilla!! Go figure. People really like the Vanilla cupcake with Vanilla buttercream over and over. I need to bring more of those next time. And I had a request for the Pumpkin Spice again......so I think I'll bring those next week.

This was our first day at the Livermore Farmer's Market!! Yea!! It was a huge success! We sold out of all of our cupcakes.

So much to do...and lots of it done!

Today was a very busy day!! Full of crossing off the to-do list. I finally got to sign papers with my commercial kitchen, go to IKEA for display ideas, take care of business license, hit WalMart for more display ideas, pick up insurance policy from my insurance lady. I actually got quite a lot done today which was great..........because sometimes you go out and there's too much traffic or too many people in the stores. But today it was smooth sailing!!! I also spoke with the Farmer's Market people just to confirm everything and got the green light. Very exciting!

Babycakes Bake Shop.......it's been in the making since 2002 when my little nephew, Logan was born.....and I started calling him my babycakes. I've been baking for about 21 years.......and did a lot more of it in graduate school. I took the long, winding road to get here......but now I'm on the hunt to find a place and way to sell my cupcakes to more people. The Farmer's Market seems like a good place to start.
